PCOS cannot be cured through diet alone — but it can absolutely be managed, controlled and even reversed in its symptoms through the right nutritional approach. This is not about eating less. It is about eating right.
The PCOS–Nutrition Connection
At the heart of PCOS is insulin resistance — a condition where your cells stop responding properly to insulin, causing your body to produce more of it. High insulin triggers the ovaries to produce excess androgens (male hormones), leading to irregular periods, acne, hair loss and weight gain.
The right diet directly targets insulin resistance.
What to EAT with PCOS
Complex Carbohydrates — Replace white rice and maida with brown rice, millets, oats and whole wheat. These release sugar slowly, keeping insulin levels stable.
High Fiber Foods — Vegetables, legumes, flax seeds and fruits with skin slow digestion and improve insulin sensitivity. Aim for 25–30g of fiber daily.
Lean Protein at Every Meal — Eggs, paneer, dal, chicken, fish and Greek yogurt keep you full, reduce cravings and stabilize blood sugar. Protein also supports healthy hormone production.
Anti-Inflammatory Foods — Turmeric, ginger, berries, green leafy vegetables and omega-3 rich foods (walnuts, flax seeds, fatty fish) reduce the chronic inflammation driving PCOS.
Healthy Fats — Avocado, ghee in moderation, nuts and seeds support hormone production and keep you satisfied longer.
What to AVOID with PCOS
• Refined sugar and sugary drinks
• Processed and packaged foods
• White bread, maida, refined grains
• Dairy in excess (can increase androgen levels in some women)
• Alcohol
• Trans fats and fried foods
Sample PCOS-Friendly Day

• Lunch: Brown rice + sabzi + dal + salad + curd
• Evening: Roasted makhana or sprouts chaat
